Using Ensemble to integrate disparate application systems

We have been InterSystems partners for a number of years and tremendously enjoy the reliability, powerful features and excellent support of its software products for developers, most notably the Caché object data base and developing environment, as well as Ensemble, its powerful integration platform.

With this post we make the readers of our blog aware of the unique capabilities Ensemble holds for integrating disparate systems. While Ensemble is known for being heavily deployed in the medical space, we use it successfully for building composite applications in the Cloud for other industries, such as Financial Services and Accounting.

SMSF administration in the Cloud - A RSDataWeb case study

Our recent article about "Accountants moving into the Cloud to administer SMSFs", yielded an excellent response by some large and mid-sized Accounting firms with SMSF clients.

Most of these firms are well aware of the benefits that Cloud computing can offer and are keen to start moving into the direction. The automation of investment and cash transactions is an excellent area to start, as it allows to integrate with a large number of external data providers.

RSDataWeb is a web-based data automation & integration platform, that integrates a wide range of electronic financial data feeds into streams of real-time and historic data helping to eliminate the tedious tasks of client data preparation in most accounting offices. RSDataWeb is not an afterthought by otherwise non-web oriented software vendors, but a powerful scalable web solution that saves Accounting and Advice firms real staff time and money.

As a case in point, we’ve put together a case study of an  Australian Accounting firm, which automated its data preparation with the help of RSDataWeb.

Enjoy the introductory video!

Cloud computing, a game changer for the astute

A recent FST Banking and Financial Services Technical conference in Sydney concentrated on the Cloud computing theme, which has entered the enterprise world for good.

The last presentation on the day was actually the most memorable. Rob Livingstone is an accomplished business man, advisor and leading academic at the University of Technology (UTS) in Sydney.

Rob reflected on his vast experience with Cloud computing from its early days onwards in his book "Navigating through the Cloud" , which gives a helping hand to businesses considering implementing Cloud computing in all its forms. Risk, compliance, privacy are only a few of Rob's important topics that pave the way to successful cloud ventures for any enterprise.

The presentation addresses key points from Rob's book and demonstrates his clear thinking. Flick through the slides and listen to Rob's recorded presentation.
Please note: The audio has a short time delay before start.

The four cornerstones of effective leadership

Deborah Ancona is an accomplished Professor and Director for Leadership studies at the MIT Sloan School of Management. Her research and teaching focusses on distributed leadership and supporting models and tools for organisations that practice superior leadership.

In this insightful video, Prof Ancona, a lead author of the '4 Capabilities Leadership Framework', describes the key attributes of a successful leader and explains how to put them in action:

  • Sensemaking: making sense of the world around us, coming to understand the context in which we are operating.
  • Relating: developing key relationships within and across organizations.
  • Visioning: creating a compelling picture of the future.
  • Inventing: designing new ways of working together to realize the vision.

We believe that Prof Ancona's insight and advice is highly relevant to business leaders in the industries we are dealing with, i.e. introducing cloud based systems and processes to traditional organisations such as accounting firms.
